Rasdhoo, North Ari Atoll, Maldives
Veligandu North is a finger-like reef that protrudes from the island of Veligandu. It is a favourite of some guides, because sharp-eyed divers can find and photograph marine life there. Some call the reef "moray city".
In the reef's small overhangs, rare ghost pipe fish and leaf fish are usually found. With a little luck, divers see feeding turtles, napoleons and a few white tip sharks along the reef. In season, mantas or mobulas are also regularly sighted. A photo of a mantis shrimp from Veligandu North has been published.
In the region, manta presence tends to be higher from October to April and lower from May to September.
