The Sinker is an Israeli buoy that went down by mistake, either because the depth was measured wrong or because it was dropped in the wrong place. The Israelis placed this big marker buoy improperly, with the chain too short for it to remain on the surface, and it now hangs suspended underwater. Divers' bubbles collect underneath the buoy and turn its underside into a mirror.
The buoy's chains running to the seabed are wrapped in soft coral, with lionfish hanging around them, and shrimps, sponges and anemones live on the structure. Highlights include banded boxer shrimps and schools of fusiliers, damselfish and glassfish, while barracuda, jacks and snappers cruise the site.
In Nuweiba, the best time to dive is usually May and June and from September to November. From January to April, the sea usually gets colder and chilly winds usually blow in the area.
