The bay's name derives from its resemblance to the fjords of Norway, with steep mountain sides descending sharply into the sea. Its centrepiece is a near-perfect circular hole about 20 m across, and the fjord is a very rare coastal feature in the Red Sea. In the hole, fish from the open sea come to feed on plenty of Glass Fish and Silver Fish.
