Maraú, Bahia, Brazil
The pools and channels of the Taipu de Fora reef have plenty of colorful fish, corals and other reef dwellers. The reef is also home to the Brazilian basslet (Gramma brasiliensis).
Along the coast of the Maraú Peninsula there are fringing reefs of corals and calcareous algae, with a coral fauna rich in endemic species whose main builders are archaic forms. The coral reefs of Taipu de Fora are listed in the register of geosites of national relevance, with the status "under analysis". The pools usually show up better at the low tides of the full moon and new moon, when the tide goes out further and exposes the corals.
