Brazil
Locally, the coral formations of Sororocuçu are called cabeços or chapeirões. The reef is partly exposed at low tide, the sea breaks over it, and it is charted as a hazard to navigation for those approaching the port of Camamu from the north. In the Península de Maraú region there are brain and spiral corals, large areas of soft corals and sponges, and reef fish known locally as ciliaris, tricolor, donzela and frade.
