Small Crack

Small Crack is the more southerly of the two channels that cut through the Sha'ab Mahmud reef. A large coral boulder in the middle of the passage splits the channel into two secondary channels. The outer wall has gorgonians, alcyonarians and large table corals, and inside the northern channel fire coral (Millepora dichotoma) dominates. Turtles are common, and there is a school of breams (Acanthopagrus) near the mouth of the channel. In summer, schools of barracuda and jackfish tend to arrive.
