Shawarit Island is part of the Hamata island group, near the southern coast of Marsa Alam, together with Mahabis, Umm el-Sheikh and Siyal. Skawarit is a calm late-afternoon dive, somewhat sheltered from the north wind when it is not strong, and one of the dives made on the return leg of 'grand sud' cruises. When there are boats in the area, the group moves on to another site. Shawarit Island has a great variety of corals and colorful fish and is a refuge for migratory and resident birds, popular with birdwatchers.
