Egypt
Shaab Nakari is a 260 m long bank reef. It provides an alternative for the first or last dive of a safari, especially when Shaab Marsa Alam is crowded.
The northern side, the more attractive one, lies in the shade from noon onwards, so dives there in sunlight are only possible in the morning. On this side, walls with overhangs covered in soft and hard corals form large coral gardens at regular intervals. On the sandy bottom with small coral rocks you can find the Red Sea walkman, blue-spotted stingrays and crocodilefish. There are also nudibranchs and schools of butterfly fish, and dolphins sometimes enter the lagoon to seek shelter.
The southern side, however, is not recommended for diving: much of it has been damaged by randomly cast anchors and is now a barren slope covered with dead coral rubble.
