Shaab El Erg (Dolphin House, West Erg)

Shaab Helua, an Arabic name meaning 'beautiful reef', is the western part of the huge horseshoe-shaped reef Shaab El Erg. There a channel separates a V-shaped block, where the moorings are, from the main reef. The coral landscape is colourful and full of fish, and with luck the dolphins that are frequent in the area appear.

Shaab El Erg is famous mainly for its group of dolphins, met especially on calm, windless days, and in its lagoon they can be seen throughout the year. Shaab El Erg has a great variety of fish, snails and worms, and in the northern part of the reef there is a coral garden and towers overgrown with different types of coral. At the northern tip of Shaab El Erg, mantas are usually observed between January and March.
