Brazil
The name Saco do Vidal pays tribute to an old lighthouse keeper who lived for a while on Ilha do Arvoredo. The lighthouse keepers of Arvoredo were civilians, and some brought their families to live on the island. In 1989 the role was militarized and came to be carried out by teams of three sailors, relieved every 85 days. Underwater, it is not rare to see groups of turtles feeding on algae, and schools of small fish gather in the cave. In November and December, large rays known locally as arraias-prego are usually spotted.
