Saco do Cherne is a horseshoe-shaped cove, sheltered from the southwest wind. Barracudas appear near the surface, and the bottom is covered with hydrocorals. The colonial ascidian Polyandrocarpa anguinea was recorded at the site in April 2001. In the Arraial do Cabo region, upwelling occurs mainly between November and March and is associated with a greater abundance of fauna.
