The site's name, which is also the name of a shark, comes from a pointed rock that sticks out of the water and resembles that shark's fin. Enseada do Anequim is a small inlet of Ilha do Cabo Frio, sheltered from the prevailing northeast winds in the area, and it is among the sites most visited by divers in the Arraial do Cabo Marine Extractive Reserve.
Underwater, the dive combines the gorgonians typical of the sheltered side of the island with the chance of meeting passing fish, more typical of the outer side. This is where the largest gorgonian colony in the region is found, forming a true underwater forest inhabited by a variety of fish and spotted rays. The bottom is dominated by a matrix of epilithic algae, where the fire coral Millepora alcicornis and the zoanthid Palythoa caribaeorum also appear.
At Saco do Anequim, sea turtles, lobsters, rays, squid and octopuses can also be observed. On one try dive, two turtles appeared, and the site is home to many small, colorful fish.
