Brazil
In the Aquário sector of Saco da Professora, the rocky shore is covered with baba-de-boi corals, brain corals, gorgonians and colorful sponges, with a great diversity of fish. The Gruta do Tesouro sector is named after a small grotto at the surface; underwater, the jagged rocky shore forms crevices and passages, and raias-prego and raias-manteiga are commonly seen. In the Ponta do Farol sector, crevices and cracks shelter peixes-borboleta-bicudos, and schools of xaréus and enxadas pass near the point.
Among the sites studied at Ilha da Vitória, Saco da Professora had the highest crab diversity, and one possible factor is its more sheltered setting compared with neighboring Ponta do Farol. Here, the crab P. spectabilis was found only in crevices of the zoanthid Palythoa caribaeorum, which suggests a close association between the two species.
Dives in the Ilha da Vitória area can reveal turtles, rays and a wide variety of fish. In Ilhabela, the best time to dive is usually from December to March.
