Maldives
It is a dive typical of Raa Atoll, with plenty of caverns and overhangs and a stunning number of fish. The overhangs can hide stingrays and nurse sharks, there are schools of batfish and snappers and, in the right season, it is also possible to see manta rays, along with sea fans, gorgonians and whip corals. The volume and variety of fish are great, with many wrasse species (ringed, lemon meringue, blue-streak cleaner, bird, six-bar, half-and-half); on the sand of the plateau there are mantis shrimp, nudibranchs and octopus. A list as long as the one for wrasses could also be compiled for angelfish, surgeonfish and triggerfish, such is the quantity and variety of species. In the region, the thilas and farus of Raa are often on the itinerary of liveaboard cruises in the northern atolls during the northern hemisphere summer and autumn, drawn by the huge volume of fish.
