Maldives
On the house reef there are schools of butterflyfish, angelfish, damselfish and trumpetfish, and up close you may spot nudibranchs, octopuses and morays tucked away in crevices. The house reef also has turtles and reef sharks. On the east side of the island there is a vast "thundi" (sand lagoon) with coral blocks and some artificial surprises.
On dives from the resort, the animals to look for include green and hawksbill turtles, Napoleon wrasse, grey reef shark and reef manta ray. In the region, mantas and whale sharks tend to be more common from May to November, during the southwest monsoon, when plankton blooms attract these animals. During the northeast monsoon, from December to April, the sea tends to remain calm.
The name Reethi means "pretty" in Dhivehi. The resort opened on the island of Fonimagoodhoo in 1998 and was operated by Mahogany Pvt Ltd for 20 years, until the owners took over operations in 2020. In October 2024, Minor Hotels announced that Reethi Beach Resort would be renovated and reopened as NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort, closing from 25 April 2025.
