Sharm El Sheikh, South Sinai, Egypt
Ras Ghamila lies just north of Ras Nasrani, on the western edge of the Tiran Strait approach. The site features a sloping reef and a long sandy lagoon at 12 metres that ends in a series of coral pinnacles at 18–25 metres, beyond which the reef drops past 40 metres. Currents pulled by the strait can be moderate to strong on the deeper edge and bring jacks, barracuda schools and the occasional grey reef shark. The shallow lagoon is sheltered and offers excellent macro hunting — leaf fish, scorpionfish, octopus and shrimp gobies on the sand. Eagle rays and turtles are regular. Visibility 25 metres. Inside the Tiran protected area.
