In April 2014 a patch of sun coral, an invasive coral from the Indo-Pacific, was recorded at Rancho Sul. The Arvoredo reserve holds sambaquis and itacoatiaras, rock inscriptions with human figures, as well as ancient burials, traces of human occupation from 2,000 to 4,000 years ago. At Arvoredo, summer tends to be the best season for diving. Between December and March, the water tends to be between 22 and 25 °C.
