Brazil
Before it got its current name, Praia do Retiro dos Padres, in Bombinhas, was called Praia dos Ingleses, because of an English ship that may have been damaged there in the 19th century. In 1967, the area was bought by Catholic priests, and the spiritual retreat house built there by the Salesian priests of Itajaí gave the beach its current name. Today that building is used as a campground.
The beach is a reference for artisanal mullet fishing, which tends to take place mainly between May and July. In 2016, it recorded one of the largest hauls in recent years, with almost 40,000 fish in a single net.
