Praia do Matariz

In the last century the Kamome fish factory operated at Matariz, one of the largest on Ilha Grande and the last to close on the whole island. Its ruins and scrapped machinery can still be seen in the landscape. The beach has two streams, one at each end, and areas of mangrove, and at its southern end it finishes at a large rock outcrop. Matariz is also used for night dives during courses: in July and August 2012, it was the site of the night dive for a dive center's Advanced Open Water checkout.
