Praia da Ferradura, in Armação dos Búzios, owes its name to its shape: the ends of the beach close in like a horseshoe. It has 1.5 km of light, fine sand with blue, cold waters, and the shoreline is surrounded by hotels and mansions.
The rocky edges of the bay are home to small fish and other sea creatures, and the best snorkeling stretches are along the rocky shores. Snorkeling at Ferradura calls for care because of the many sea urchins.
In Búzios, summer, from January to March, tends to be the best time to dive. For snorkeling, the dry season, from April to October, tends to be the best time in the region, with more pleasant weather.
