Brazil
The Ponta de Mangue group brings together three natural pools, named Ponta de Mangue Norte, Meio and Sul. In them you can see small colourful fish and many different forms of coral. In 2019, the Ponta de Mangue pools accounted for about 8% of the trips to the Maragogi pools, against more than 90% for the pools of the town center.
The Management Plan of the APA Costa dos Corais, approved in February 2013, did not allow commercial trips to the reef outside the visitation zones, and around that time enforcement operations began at Ponta de Mangue. In July 2017, the APA management declared its agreement with regulating visitation at Ponta de Mangue and sent the proposal to the Management Council, which backed that position. Through recommendation no. 01/2017, the Management Council advised that visits to the pools be made only by traditional jangadas of the region, steered by local residents, to reduce the environmental impact. In March 2018, based on ICMBio ordinance no. 85/2018, the Maragogi city government issued decree no. 003/2018, which restricted access to the APA at Ponta de Mangue to jangadas only. In May 2018, the Alagoas Court of Justice denied an injunction that sought to allow schooners and catamarans to operate at Ponta de Mangue.
