Taocas is the pool area most directly in line with the centre of Maragogi, at a distance of 3.5 to 4 km. Between 2012 and 2013, epilithic algae were the largest cover on the bottom of the Taocas reefs, followed by the fire coral Millepora alcicornis. The reefs of Maragogi have records of 31 reef fish species, and the damselfish Stegastes fuscus is the most abundant.
