Australia
Northernmost flat reef visited by day-trip boats from Cairns, 80 km northeast of the city, with spectacular coral gardens, caves, swim-throughs and small wrecks within the reef. Visibility can reach 30 m in the crystalline waters of the Outer Reef, and moray eels, manta rays, turtles and — during the austral winter — dwarf minke whales are encountered regularly.
