The Rio Chapena spring is on Fazenda Ceita Corê, a name that means “Land of My Children” in Tupi-Guarani. The water tends to stay crystal clear all year round, because it flows through limestone rock. With this clarity, you can see fish, submerged logs and rock formations in the spring. In the cave's entrance room, hundreds of catfish and small colorful fish stay in the shadows.
Beyond that room, a narrow tunnel descends about 9 m to a large fissure, which drops to about 80 m and splits into two tunnels that join back together below about 107 m. Exploratory dives in the cave have reached about 155 m deep without hitting the bottom.
