Nabq, South Sinai, Egypt
The Million Hope is a large 174-metre Greek-flagged general cargo ship that ran aground on the reef off Nabq, north of Sharm El Sheikh, on 20 June 1996 while carrying phosphate, fertilizers and copper. The wreck broke into several pieces and lies on a sandy slope between 8 and 28 metres, the bow section largely intact and the stern broken open, exposing engine room machinery. The wreck has been heavily colonised by hard and soft corals, with dense schools of glassfish in the holds, masked pufferfish, lionfish and a large resident moray eel. Ras Mohammed and Tiran sharks occasionally pass on the offshore drop. Currents are usually mild, making this one of the most accessible wreck dives in the Sharm area, suitable for advanced Open Water and above. Visibility 20 metres typical.
