Egypt
Marsa Ghozlani is the small bay that marks the start of Ras Mohamed National Park, after more than a mile of deserted, unsheltered coastline south of Sharm. Ras Mohammed became Egypt's first national park in 1983. The park's visitor center is in Marsa Ghozlani, on top of a hill overlooking the Red Sea. It was renovated with support from EEAA, GEF and UNDP to give visitors guidance on the park's biodiversity and on Egypt's protected areas. From the visitor center, a walkway leads to a fossilized coral garden.
On the north side of the bay, a plateau stretches out until it ends in a drop-off. The hard corals are healthy, with Porites, fire corals, brain and finger corals, and common fish include the Sohal surgeonfish, parrotfish and the Arabian Picasso triggerfish.
