Mafaahi West

Thanks to the reef's special vegetation, turtles and rays are often encountered, and large coral blocks along the wall shelter various macro organisms. The reef fish listed for Maafahi island include grouper, red snapper, parrot fish, surgeon fish, goat fish and snapper. The Haa Alifu atoll has plenty of tropical reef fish, including sharks, stingrays and turtles.

Maafahi, the reef's island, is a long-term leased island for agriculture and, at 99.1 ha, is comparatively big. On the island, farming ranges from hydroponics to land agriculture, and there is a dragon fruit field.

In the Haa Alifu atoll, the sea usually starts to calm at the beginning of December and stays calm until May, before the monsoon. In the region, manta season typically runs from November to March.
