Maldives
The Corner is a sloping coral garden that gives way to a deeper drop-off and links the outer wall of Maa Kandu to the channel's manta cleaning station. Maa Kandu is one of only four channels that break the outer barrier reef of Addu. In an account from March 2017, Maakandu Corner appears among the good dive sites of Addu.
When diving the Maakandu channel, big manta rays are regularly seen at the corner of the channel. The reef slope in the channel has massive coral heads, large brain corals and leather corals.
The Maa Kandu channel area overlaps with the Addu Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a marine protected area. In the region, the southwest monsoon, from May to November, tends to bring more rain and wind, rougher seas and reduced visibility, while the northeast monsoon, from January to March, usually brings clear waters.
