Huge brain coral heads cascade down the side of the reef like a sloping coral garden. Besides the brain coral, the site has beautiful hard corals, and dolphins also appear among the expected marine life. A lighthouse, with the light signal VQ(3) 5s9m, stands about 1 km east of the site.
Shaab El Erg is one of the natural habitats in the Red Sea of a large group of spinner dolphins. When diving at Shaab El Erg, the dolphins' whistling and beeping sounds are often heard long before the animals are seen.
