Brazil
Formerly called Lagoa da Encantada, the lagoon got its current name from a man of Oriental origin whose house was on the way: the place "is past the Japanese man's house". Its opening to organised tourism is recent, following an initiative by Sebrae Tocantins. The lagoon has been a filming location for a Netflix series and a Globo soap opera.
At one end there is a grotto, about 60 m from the deck, where the water turns from green to deep blue; it can be reached by swimming or by boat. There are other grottoes around, rocks and logs on the bottom and a small waterfall. The lagoon is full of small fish that nibble at bathers' feet. The water tends to be clearer from May to September, in the dry season, and from December to March the rains can darken it.
