Maldives
The reef has hard coral gardens and sea fans, with tunas, jacks, barracuda and eagle rays. The Kuda Kandu Area was declared a marine protected area (category 7, sustainable use) on 22/09/2020, covering 462.06 ha. On the outer reefs of Addu, the 2016 El Niño bleached the corals and caused major damage. In Addu, diving is usually possible all year; the water tends to be warmest between January and March.
