The remains of this wreck at Zabargad are identified as the Khanka, a Soviet MOMA-class spy ship, but the ship's name and history are still uncertain. The cause and date of the sinking are unknown: two large openings, in the bow and the stern, probably let the water in, and it is not known whether it was sabotage or an accident. Estimates based on the coral and organisms that have grown on the hull place the sinking between the 1950s and 1960s or around 1970, with no documented date. Today the bow is separated from the rest of the ship and lies on its port side.
The hull, deck and superstructures are covered in corals. The bridge and the engine room are packed with clouds of glassfish and active lionfish.
