Maldives
The Kandhoval channel was opened in the top of the reef and was historically used for boat access. Over time, coral colonised it, forming sheltered microhabitats. As a manmade channel carved into the reef top, it creates contrasting coral terraces, and a single dive combines the sheltered interior of the channel with the exposed wall. The channel can usually be dived year-round, even in moderate monsoon conditions, and the best conditions on the wall are usually from December to April.
