Brazil
Among the rocks of Ilha Pituã there are corals, schools of small colorful fish and many starfish. The islet has a large natural pool and a small strip of sand made of tiny shells. Sea urchins, starfish and fish shelter in the island's natural pools.
Terns used to frequent Ilha Pituã, but they moved away because of people's disrespect and began to concentrate on other islands. A few years ago, the Vila Velha fishing community began taking tourists to the Pituã and Itatiaia islands; in 2025 there were seven boat crews, all of them fishermen. On 1 April 2023, a volunteer clean-up collected about 250 kilos of litter from the Itatiaia and Pituã islands and Itapuã beach, both on land and in the sea.
