Ilha do Japonês, at the Boca da Barra of the Itajuru Channel in Cabo Frio, forms a natural pool much calmer than the open sea and is the main stop of the Cabo Frio boat tour. On quiet days you can see a few small fish, and those who dive may find colorful fish, turtles and, with luck, starfish.
On this coast, August tends to be a month of strong wind, and the boat tour may be rescheduled. At that time of year, the water in the region tends to be around 21 °C because of upwelling.
