Guraidhoo Corner

The Guraidhoo complex has 2 channels and a central reef, and it is so extensive that it can be dived as 3 sites: Guraidhoo Corner, Losfushi Kandu and Medhu Faru. It can be dived all year round, and the better period tends to be from December to April. The K. Guraidhoo Kanduolhi marine protected area, also called Guraidhoo Kandu, was declared in 1995.

The highlight of Guraidhoo Corner is the corner itself, where eagle rays pass by. Green turtles rest on the ledges inside the channel. It is a classic channel drift dive, known for nutrient-rich currents that draw in schools of fish, reef sharks and passing pelagic species. Because of its position in the channel, ocean currents carry marine life into the atoll, especially during the northeast monsoon.

Of about 1,110 sites surveyed in the Maldives, the Guraidhoo Kandu area has been identified as one of the most important aggregations of whitetip reef sharks and grey reef sharks. Courtship behavior of whitetip reef sharks has been recorded in the area, with 7 males following a female. Moray eels, squirrelfish, parrotfish, grouper, eagle rays and gray reef sharks stand out in the Guraidhoo complex. In the southern channel of Guraidhoo Kandu there are many soft corals, sea fans and black coral bushes, and inside the channel an archway is covered in soft corals.
