Galés de Maragogi are natural pools that form at low tide, among coral reefs and sandbanks. Since 1997, Galés has been part of the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area. They lie about 6 km from the beach, or 25 minutes by boat.
The reefs form calm-water pools, true natural aquariums with corals of many species, schools of colourful tropical fish, crustaceans and molluscs. In the region, the natural pools of Maragogi (Galés, Barra Grande and Taocas) also show sea urchins, and the highlight is the sergeant major, a yellow fish with black stripes.
Trips tend to run at low tide, and the full moon period is usually pointed to as the most recommended. In the Maragogi pools, the best season tends to be summer, when the water becomes clearer.
