Groups of reef sharks and eagle rays appear mostly on the outer corner of the channel. On the channel crossing there are also eagle rays swimming in formation and schools of jack fish and rainbow runners. Morays, stingrays and, sometimes, manta rays are also seen. In the region, the Fushivaru area, which brings together several dive sites, has been a marine protected area since 1995.
