Fenfushi Faru is the longest reef in Ari Atoll, at 15 km in length. On the outer side of the reef, sharks, big tuna, turtles and good-sized groupers appear, along with smaller fish, and there are big schools of tuna. In the region, the whale shark aggregation of South Ari consists almost exclusively of immature males. The island of Maamigili lies on Fenfushi Faru, and its islanders are well known for making limestone building blocks and for coral and sand mining. The islanders of Fenfushi, in turn, are well known for their coral carvings, tombstones and stone mosques, and the Fenfushi Friday Mosque was built during the reign of Sultan Mohammed Ibn Al-Haj Ali (1692–1701).
