Maldives
Farikede is a spur reef on the southeastern corner of the island that extends 2 km from the shore: the top is a gently sloping coral reef, with a steep drop-off along the sides. Because of the difficulty of the site, operators dive Farikede on average only 193 days a year, and in strong monsoon conditions, from June to August, it may be skipped for several days. The season is usually best from November to May. In this region, in photo-identification records from 2007 to 2023, oceanic manta ray (Mobula birostris) aggregations tend to be seasonal, with a peak from March to May.
