El Quseir, Red Sea, Egypt
The El Quseir House Reef refers to the fringing reef along the resort strip north and south of El Quseir town, accessed by shore entry from the Mövenpick Quseir, Subex and Roots Camp resorts among others. The reef is a sloping coral garden from the shallow flat at 3 metres to a sandy bottom at 30 metres, with extensive hard coral cover and patches of gorgonian fans on the deeper edge. The site is popular for shore-entry dives, training, night dives and long bottom-time exploration. Reef life is varied: anthias clouds, butterflyfish, parrotfish, lionfish, masked pufferfish, peacock groupers, the occasional crocodilefish, and abundant macro subjects (mantis shrimp, octopus, nudibranchs). Turtles are reliable and the occasional eagle ray passes. Currents are typically very mild. Visibility 20–25 metres. Suitable from Open Water level.
