Below the top, the thila has a steep slope with overhangs and two plateaus covered in table corals and thickets of staghorn corals. On the reef there are schools of blue-striped snappers, fusiliers, angelfish and lionfish. The top is carpeted with a soft coral. In Meemu Atoll, the monsoon tends to run from May to November, and around June the sea is sometimes too rough for boats. In 2007, with only one resort open in the atoll, one school's dive boat was almost always the only dive boat there.
