The house reef has plenty of coral and fish, and in the middle of the bay four turtles can often be seen grazing on the seagrass. They are residents of this seagrass meadow, and divers call one of them Henriette. Seen from below, the pier is covered in life and is also dived; on a dive in April 2014, nudibranchs, pufferfish and a cuttlefish were seen beneath it, and on the large reef block there was a very large crown-of-thorns starfish. Newly arrived divers usually make their first assessment dive here, and the house reef also serves as a plan B when the harbours close. In Safaga, October is named as the ideal month for diving, with air still summery, water still warm and dive centres not crowded.
