Maldives
Corals and sponges cover the reef. Green sea turtles swim and rest around the site, drawn by the lagoon's seagrass beds, and octopus also appear. Because of its resident turtles, the Dhonfanu house reef earned the nickname "Turtle Reef". Dives at the neighboring Bodu Gaa pinnacle often end with a swim over to this reef. A 2008 survey recorded, near Dhonfanu, one of the four seagrass beds of Baa Atoll, which at the time was of recent formation and much smaller than the others. The same survey identified the waters around Dhonfanu as one of the atoll's sea cucumber hotspots.
