Maldives
On 5 June 2011, the Maldivian government protected Dhigali Giri as part of the Dhigali Haa area, which had already been protected since 21 October 1999. The protection covers a 200 m wide strip starting from the giri and the places between Dhigali Haa and Dhigali Giri. In the protected area of Dhigali Haa and Dhigali Giri, red encrusting coralline algae are abundant and there are many colonies of digitate and branching Acropora, along with records of grey reef sharks, white-tipped reef sharks, barracudas, jacks and turtles. The site is sheltered from the current and is recommended for shallower dives.
