Maldives
Dheefuram is an uninhabited island, small enough to be circled in a single dive, but the dive usually concentrates on the northwest and eastern slopes of the reef.
The reef has a plateau with large corals and a wall with overhangs. The coral-covered overhangs shelter clouds of glass fish and juvenile fish, hunted by schools of trevally. Lobsters, lion fish, groupers, moray eels and anemone clown fish live in them. Turtles and stingrays may also appear.
At a certain time of year, mantas usually visit the site's cleaning station. For snorkelers, the site is a steep drop-off with lots of fish and schools of bannerfish.
