Maldives
On the southeast side of the thila there is a canyon full of blue-striped snappers. Batfish approach divers and dogtooth tuna circle the thila.
In Dhivehi, "thila" means an underwater pillar, a reef formation that does not reach the surface. Around Sirru Fen Fushi you can see pelagic fish and large animals: eagle rays, marble rays, grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, silvertip sharks and even guitar sharks.
In the Sirru Fen Fushi area, manta rays tend to roam between December and April. In the northern atolls, the best time to dive tends to run from December to April. Between June and September, the excess plankton in the northern atolls tends to attract a lot of marine life, including hundreds of manta rays, especially at Hanifaru Bay (Baa).
