São Paulo, Brazil
Calhaus is one of the two rocky outcrops that rise above the water in the Parque Estadual Marinho da Laje de Santos, next to the main Laje. Created in 1993, the park is the only marine park in the state and covers 5,000 ha, including the Laje, shoals and the Calhaus rocks. Calhaus was already being described to divers in a magazine report from April 1988. The site was also one of the subjects of the documentary "Laje dos Sonhos", which shows the dive there.
The rock is crossed from one side to the other by a U-shaped tunnel, with a central arch that rises above the surface. Sunlight comes in through the many passages and openings, and an inner chamber shelters a large school of fish.
In the tunnel you can see schools of fish, turtles and lobsters, and on the outer face there are passing fish and larger fish.
