The Boiler is a seamount on the northwest coast of San Benedicto Island, in the Revillagigedo Archipelago, rising from a base of about 50m to just a few meters below the surface — identified by divers from the sea that appears to "boil" over the top. The site is world-famous for its cleaning stations of giant Pacific manta rays (Mobula birostris), where Clarion angelfish remove parasites while the rays glide curiously around divers, often hovering over air bubbles. Scalloped hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini) regularly appear in schools in the blue, and encounters with whale sharks and humpback whales are recorded during the season.
