The house reef offers night dives with bioluminescence.
The reef's hard corals suffered from the major bleaching event of 1998 and from another one under way in September 2016. At that time, the soft corals and the excellent variety of fish made up for the loss of the hard corals. In October 2018, it was reported that at the house reef "the corals are gone", but that the dive was still worthwhile because the fish remained plentiful.
The Bandos resort opened on 10 December 1972 and was one of the pioneers of tourism in the Maldives.
